A View From the Past
Being my first post, I decided to feel my way around by posting a piece I did in 2015.
At best, it could be viewed that Donald Trump is a successful American business man, looking to lead his beleaguered Nation into brighter days. At worst, Trump could be described as a shameless opportunist utilizing a bid for the Republican Nomination as a garish stunt of self-promotion. While there could be some truth to the former and likely a whole lot of truth to the latter, there could be more than meets the eye when it comes to Donald Trumps bid for President.
Donald Trumps recent comments on immigration have created quite a stir as of late. Though taken out of context, these statements have been used by the MSM to paint a very ugly face on the issue, placing anyone that supports border security and naturalization into a fraudulently constructed camp of intolerant bullies, bigots, homophobes, and Confederate Flag waivers. For some Republican candidates, these comments could not have come at a better time. Though Democrats have been able to somehow cow their base into acceptance that illegal immigrants aren't in fact illegal and in breach of US law, the Republican base has stood fast on this issue, becoming a stone in the shoe to the globalist agenda of open borders that we see being implemented throughout the western world supported by candidates such as Bush, Rubio, and Perry. Their effective support of open borders, thinly veiled in platitudes of equality and outright false comparisons, referring to illegals as, "Mexican Americans", are proving to be the most vulnerable Achilles Heal of not only their campaigns, but the GOP's ever slipping position towards amnesty and open borders.
So, with such a wide schism between the establishments obvious position, and the base's foundation of principle, how can the GOP squeeze in a Rubio, or most likely Bush? Enter Donald Trump.
Mr. Trump is no stranger to speculating at a bid for President, and has announced some type of intention for the last several election cycles. In 1999, he went as far as hiring the shady Nixon insider, Roger Stone as his Chief Political adviser announcing his separation from the Republican Party and that he would seek the nomination of the Reform Party. By the way, this is an historical fact that seems to have escaped the MSM. Why is this important you may ask? Well, besides being a shameless opportunist, Trump seems to always show up to help the GOP establishment in their time of need.
The Election of 2000 was pivotal for many reasons. 1992 clearly showed that voters were fed up with the two Party system, and the success of Ross Perot's campaign that year marked a turning point in American politics; the Two Party system had shown vulnerability and it could be defeated.
After a strong showing in 1996, almost resulting in the defeat of Bob Dole for the Republican nomination, Pat Buchanan posed a major threat to the GOP. No way would a true believer populist will ever be allowed to secure a major party nomination, much less allowed to occupy the White House. Discrediting Pat was a huge priority.
With Mr. Trumps announced intentions came a media circus, bandying about names like Oprah Winfrey as possible candidates, and creating an over all air of buffoonery around the Reform Party that culminated in him leaving the race after a poor showing in the California primary. During an appearance on The Today Show he stated: "The Reform Party is a total mess! You have Buchanan, a right winger, and you have Fulani, a Communist, and they have merged.... I don't know what you have!"
The damage was done and Buchanan never posed the threat to George W. Bush that for better or worse could have drastically changed history. Fast forward to 2016. With such glaring differences in policy position concerning immigration where establishment candidates are concerned and the base of the party whose nomination these candidates wish to seek; how can the base be swayed into repositioning or excusing the obvious differences? The answer: Good old fashioned intimidation and demonetization.
With Donald Trump making reckless statements about serious issues, it will be very easy for the main stream media to misconstrue his intentions and easily demonize the position of secure borders and demand for naturalized immigration, all the while providing cover for globalist like Bush to shamelessly taught his globalist, open border agenda with not only impunity, but with praise leaving the GOP base, as well as some Democrats in a position of fear to speak out.
Donald Trump might very well have good intentions with his run for the Presidency, or he might just be out for publicity; but either way, his candidacy and rhetoric so far has acted to vilify the conservative position on immigration, and provided establishment candidates a shield in which to hide behind.
